Turza | Chief Information Officer, Sigma-Aldrich Carl Turza is the CIO of Sigma-Aldrich, a producer of biochemical and organic chemical products used in research, biotechnology, pharmaceutical development and chemical manufacturing. Previously he was Chief Operating Officer of Woodwind & Brasswind, responsible for growth and operations of this worldwide distributor of musical instruments. Prior to his role at Woodwind & Brasswind, Carl served W.W. Grainger as Vice President, e-Business, responsible for developing and integrating Grainger's e-commerce offerings with all sales channels. Carl co-founded The Ronin Group, a business consulting firm that specializes in targeted, strategic development of organizational capability and knowledge. Prior to the Ronin Group, Carl served as Vice President, Information Systems, at AlliedSignal Aerospace, Director of Financial Applications for A.C. Nielsen, and Director of Information Systems for Donnelley Marketing, both Dun & Bradstreet companies. Carl received his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics in 1981, from the University of Illinois - Champaign, and his Master's degree in Business Administration (Finance and Strategic Planning) in 1989, from the University of Illinois - Chicago. Anne T. Coughlan | Associate Professor of Marketing, Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern Anne Coughlan received her bachelor’s degree in Economics (Phi Beta Kappa, with Honors and Distinction, 1977) and her Ph.D. in Economics (1982) both from Stanford University. From 1981 to 1985 she taught at the Graduate School of Business of the University of Rochester as an assistant professor of Economics and Marketing. Since 1985 she has been on the Marketing faculty at the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University, where she is currently a tenured Associate Professor of Marketing. She was a visiting Professor of Marketing at INSEAD, in Fontainebleau, France, during the 1997-98 school year. Professor Coughlan’s teaching, research, and consulting interests lie in the areas of distribution channel management and design, pricing, competitive strategy, and the international applications of these areas. She is also the lead author (with co-authors Erin Anderson, Louis W. Stern, and Adel I. El-Ansary) of Marketing Channels, 6th edition (Prentice-Hall, 2001), a leading textbook and reference work in the area of distribution channel design and management. Professor Coughlan has also written many scholarly research articles and her work has been published in journals such as Marketing Science, Management Science, International Journal of Research in Marketing, Journal of Business, and Journal of Marketing. Christopher Hjelm | Chief Information Officer, The Kroger Company As chief information officer of Kroger, Hjelm leads the technology strategies, and is responsible for all aspects of engineering, site architecture, operations and services. Previously, Hjelm served as chief information officer for Cendant's Travel Distribution Services division responsible for all aspects for engineering, site architecture and operations. Hjelm joined Cendant via their acquisition of Orbitz where he ensured the company maintained its industry-leading role in providing the lowest cost and most consumer-friendly technology platform in online travel. Before joining Orbitz, Hjelm served as senior vice president for technology at eBay Inc. overseeing all aspects of technology. Under Hjelm's leadership, eBay achieved record levels of site quality and reliability during a period of accelerating global business growth and new product introductions. Hjelm's credentials also include a 14-year tenure at Federal Express Corp. where he was senior vice president and chief information officer. Prior to eBay, he was executive vice president for broadband network services at Excite@Home. In that capacity he was responsible for operations, engineering and product development. Hjelm holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Colorado State University in Ft. Collins and an honorary Ph.D. in Computer Science from Colorado Technical University Arthur Roldan | President and CEO of SecurePipe Art is a seasoned technology entrepreneur with more than 20 years of experience in the software industry. He is presently CEO of SecurePipe. Since joining the company in 2002, Art has led an impressive transformation of the technology service firm into a leading provider of managed network security services. Over the past three years, Art directed the broadening of service offerings, the development of alternate distribution channels, and the expansion of the company’s client base, resulting in a six-fold growth of revenues. Under his leadership, SecurePipe has secured incremental venture funding to expand its sales channels, operational infrastructure, accelerate research and development and recruit an experienced management team to help the company realize its full growth potential. Prior to joining SecurePipe, Art was the president and CEO of Novarra, a wireless software company. Drawing on his experience and leadership, Novarra grew from a seed start up of three to a mature team of fifty professionals in one year, with products, customers and strategic partners. Art succeeded at raising $30,000,000 in venture capital within an 18-month period from Novarra’s inception. Prior to joining Novarra, Roldan was president and CEO of The Premisys Corp., a leading sales engineering automation software company. Under Roldan’s leadership, the company’s revenue doubled in the year prior to its acquisition by J.D. Edwards. Art’s considerable experience with growing other start-up companies has resulted in their acquisition by public companies. Art is a board member of the Illinois Technology Association and has been recognized in Crain’s Internet 100 Executives. He is also a sought after speaker for the entrepreneur programs at Northwestern’s Kellogg Graduate School of Management and the MBA program at The University of Chicago. Art began his career at IBM and holds a BS in business administration from DePaul University and attended the Entrepreneurial Leadership program at the Harvard Business School.
